SingStar fans can now do karaoke versions of their favourite Delorentos tracks, as three of the band's songs have been made available to download for the game.
Fresh from their appearance at the BudRising Spring festival, Dublin's Delorentos return with a new single, support slots and a headline tour of their own.
Ronan Yourell has been talking to Hot Press about the tumultuous events which lead to him quitting and then re-joining Delorentos, all in the space of a few months.
When Delorentos came on stage everything seemed to fall into place. Although they’re clearly influenced by the current Brit Pop new wave, Franz Ferdinand et al, and are not wholly original, they do conjure undeniably sharp riffs and tight rhythms. They’re also great fun to watch.

A nine-day Tipperary festival is being planned for July 7-15, featuring Dublin band Delorentos, other musical acts from Ireland and abroad, and a host of other cultural events.

Dublin band most likely Delorentos whet appetites with this thrilling taster for their debut album. ‘The Rules’ posits a sweetly naive collision of swaggering riffs and almost but not quite emo choruses. Too much hype may already have dulled their appeal – it’s ominous when you’re sick of a band not yet on their first record. For now, though, Delorentos are bright young things to watch.
They may look after Lambchop’s pets and occasionally leg it from Crawdaddy to catch the last train home, but when not partaking in such hi-jinks, Dublin quartet Delorentos are busy trying to kick rock music another rung up the evolutionary ladder.
The Dublin venue – which has hosted acts like Arctic Monkeys, Jeff Buckley, Nick Cave and Bloc Party over the years – will celebrate 20 years in business this month with a special series of gigs.
Over the past six months Delorentos have found themselves in the not entirely enviable position of being tipped as the next big thing before they’d released a single note of music. Thus their debut EP finally arrives with great expectations. Fortunately, it’s a case of happy endings all round as the Dublin four piece pass their first test with flying colours. Indeed, you’d be hard pressed to recognise this as anything but the work of a band at the top of their game. Every aspect exudes pure confidence. The only possible worry, in fact, is that, with its twisted guitar riffs and awkward beats, they could find themselves tied a little too closely to the whole Franz / Bloc / Futureheads thing. Some lead, most follow and Delorentos are heading for the front.
On the eve of the release of their highly anticipated debut album, Dublin quartet Delorentos take five from their latest video shoot to discuss playing with Gang of Four, hanging with Steve Albini and playing football in Texas.
They were the great new hopes of Irish rock. Until, with their second album in the can, they decided to, er, call it a day. Thankfully, Delorentos have changed their mind and are about to step back into the fray with new LP You Can Make Sound. Hot Press joins them for a contemplative walk by the sea.
Something of a holding pattern for the Delorentos, with their album being rightly acclaimed in all quarters, the need to keep providing singles leads us to ‘Stop’. They’re still streets ahead of most of the other domestic bands at their level though and the Jape remix proves that they’re keen to keep moving forward.
Energetic, angular indie stylings and melodic, hook-tastic tunes are the order of the night. The band give a tight, flawless performance hinging on the formidable front pairing of Ronan and Kieran, whose sparring guitars and vocal harmonies are the act’s secret ingredient.
Delorentos seem to have been with us for an age, outdone only by The Rags in taking their time releasing that long awaited first album. ‘Basis Of Everything’ is one last, download only salvo before said LP arrives in April but it indicates just how much this cautious approach has paid off. As with everything they’ve put their name to, this screams quality, conviction and promise. New Irish band of the year? Look out Ham Sambo, there could be a battle on the horizon.

Four go through to the Cork and Dublin semi-finals in March 2007, and then the top 2 slug it out on May 10 for a prize fund of €10,000. This includes studio time, a six month management contract and the release and national distribution of an EP courtesy of FIFA Records. Last years winners were Lotus Lullaby, pictured right.
